ABEBA'S CHALLENGING PREGNANCY

In the remote village of Aragure, in the Tigray region of Ethiopia, expectant mother Abeba feared for herself and her unborn baby after a week of heavy bleeding.

Normally, she would have had to travel over 10 miles for care, but thanks to ALIMA’s support, her local health center was able to treat her.

Abeba was diagnosed with a complicated urinary tract infection and carefully monitored until it was time to give birth. Thanks to the prompt care, she gave birth to a healthy girl.

“Once I noticed my health problems, I was afraid of losing my baby and myself as well. Today, looking into the eyes of my baby, I cannot help smiling and saying Thank You!”

MODELINE GIVES BIRTH AT HOME

When gang violence in Cité Soleil shut down the city, expectant mother Modeline lost her business, and with it her only source of income.

Throughout her pregnancy, medical care was either out of reach or too expensive. She had no choice but to deliver her child at home. Soon after, she grew worried. Something wasn’t right with her newborn daughter, Naily.

Then, hope arrived when ALIMA’s mobile clinic reached her neighborhood. For the first time, Modeline and her baby were able to see a doctor and receive free treatment.

“If ALIMA hadn’t come with the mobile clinic, I don’t know what would have happened to my daughter,” she said.

Guiro is forced to flee her home

After her husband was killed in attacks on her village in Burkina Faso, Guiro fled with her young child. Pregnant and without enough food, she soon grew weak and struggled to keep going, uncertain of where to find help.

Fortunately, men traveling from a nearby village found Guiro and her baby and took them in.

Once she regained enough strength, they guided her to an ALIMA-supported internally displaced persons camp, where she and her child finally received the care and shelter they desperately needed just in time.

Thanks to ALIMA’s care, both mother and baby survived.

RAHINA'S FIGHT TO SAVE HER SON

At 19 months old, Djibir had stopped eating and grown weak. His mother, Rahina, had already lost two children and feared she was about to lose another.

Worried that he had malaria, she brought Djibir to the ALIMA-supported Gada Ambulatory Nutritional Rehabilitation Center in Niger’s Mirriah district. Once he was admitted, doctors diagnosed Djibir with severe acute malnutrition.

For eight weeks, Djibir received therapeutic food and round-the-clock care. Slowly, he began to recover, gaining weight, smiling, and playing by his mother’s side again.

“I am really happy with the program,” Rahina shared with us. “Without it, I couldn’t have treated my child.”
